The role

This Data Protection Manager role is an exciting opportunity to work with our Global Automotive client and is key to their compliance with data protection regulations. You will be managing the Data Privacy team in the Legal & Governance department and liaise closely with the Data Protection Officer, acting as their deputy as required. This role also collaborates closely with all other teams across the client.

We are looking for someone with privacy experience and who is customer focused.  Qualifications are desirable and not essential and support is likely to be given to achieve relevant qualifications. You should be ‘in person focused’ – you will be working with Business Teams – and able to explain processes via conversation and maintain your position when challenged.

Main Responsibilities and Key Objectives: 

Deliver our Operational Performance:

  • Support data protection compliance reviews and oversee remediation activities
  • Support the maintenance of supplier privacy due diligence and contractual safeguards
  • Support business activities which require privacy review, and act as point of escalation for all internal escalations
  • Project Manage team initiatives to drive compliance both internally and across the network of retailers
  • Responsible for timely processing of data subject rights requests and complaints
  • Maintenance of corporate RoPA

Embed Compliance:

  • Maintain and enhance privacy compliance and understanding across the organisation
  • Support periodic review of applicable data protection policies in light of changes in laws, regulatory or organizational policy
  • Support the conduct of data protection impact assessments
  • Review and maintain data processing records (Art GDPR)

 Engage Colleagues:

  • Provide prompt, professional advice to colleagues where necessary
  • Collaborate with colleagues/teams, including providing support to day -to-day queries

Power our People through technology:

  • Support monitoring of system/processes development for privacy and data protection compliance
  • Encourage use of self-service technical solutions (e.g. OneTrust platform)

Drive brand perception and delight our Clients & their Customers:

  • Be an ambassador for the client
  • Be aware of, and minimise, the reputational and financial risks of non-compliance and data incidents

Key skills and experience required:

Essential

  • At least 5 years’ experience (or equivalent) in privacy, data protection role
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, able to communicate effectively with people at all levels both inside and outside of the company, tailoring messaging to audience
  • Experienced in used OneTrust privacy related platform/modules
  • High attention to detail
  • Project Management skills
  • Good time management and organisation
  • Capable of working independently, but within a team structure
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders
  • Self-starter, confidence to independently seek resolutions to issues when appropriate

Desirable

  • Privacy certification preferred (e.g. BCS Practitioner or CIPP/E)
